Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes, completely. There is no trial period, no paid tier and no feature locked behind a payment.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email address and no password. Open the planner and start laying out tables.
Where are my seating plans stored?
In your own browser, using a feature called local storage. Your layout and every guest name you type stay on your device. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else — there is no server to upload them to.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
Your saved plan is deleted along with it, and we cannot recover it because we never had a copy. If a plan matters to you, use Export to download it as a file. That file is your backup.
Can I open the same plan on my phone and my laptop?
Not automatically, because nothing syncs through a server. Export the file on one device, transfer it however you like — email, cloud drive, messaging app — and use Import on the other.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The layout adapts to a narrow screen, and on a small screen it opens in View mode by default: you can search guests, find their table and zoom, but you cannot accidentally drag a table out of place. Tap View mode to unlock editing if you really want to rearrange things from a phone. Serious layout work is much easier on a laptop.
Does it work without internet?
Once the page has loaded, the planner runs entirely in your browser and does not need a connection to keep working. However, if you close the tab and reopen it somewhere with no signal, the page itself may not load. If you are relying on it at a venue with poor Wi-Fi, load the page before you arrive and leave the tab open.
How many guests fit around a table?
As a rough guide: a 1.5 m round table seats eight comfortably, 1.8 m seats ten. For square and rectangular tables and the reasoning behind those numbers, see the seating guide.
How much space do I need between tables?
At least 1.5 m between table edges, so two people can push their chairs back and someone can still walk between them. Make it 1.8 m where staff serve food, and 2.2 m for a main aisle or wheelchair route.
Can I print the plan?
There is no dedicated print layout yet. Use your browser's print function, choose landscape, and zoom the plan so it fills the screen before printing. A screenshot often produces a better result for sticking on a wall.
Can I send the plan to my venue?
Yes — export it and send them the file. Bear in mind they will need this site to open it, so it is worth also writing out your table sizes and the number of seats per table in plain text in the email. Venue staff set rooms up from measurements.
Can I label who sits in each chair?
Yes. Click any chair and type the name. Press Enter to jump to the next seat around that table. Once names are in, the search box at the top of the sidebar will find any guest and highlight their seat.
Are my guests' names private?
Yes. Names never leave your browser. They are not sent to us and not included in any analytics — there is no analytics on this site. Do remember that you are storing other people's names on your device — see the privacy policy for what that means.
Why did my plan disappear?
The usual causes are browsing in private or incognito mode, which discards storage when the window closes; using a different browser or device from the one you planned on; or a browser setting that clears site data on exit.
